flexion/extension we’ve talked about
0:15
flexing and extending our bodies our
0:17
legs throughout the whole course l1 l2
0:20
and l3 and L3 flex \u0026 extension is
0:24
imperative because we do it so much and
0:27
if I can just get have you flex your arm
0:29
it for a bit and see how long you
0:33
can do that and then just relax it you
0:37
can see that if I’m flexed the whole
0:38
time that I’m going to wear my body out
0:41
and I’m going to start shaking and then
0:43
if I use my muscles my actual
0:47
skeleton then I’m actually allowing my
0:49
body to have some rest so if I can get
0:52
into some rhythm of flex and extending
0:54
that means I’m flexing how flex my knees
0:57
hips now my body I even get down low
1:00
with my in my spine so I can flex and
1:03
extend through my turns.
1:04
So by flexing extending it’s going to
1:08
allow me to to actually flex and then
1:12
relax so I’m not overworking my body so
1:15
it’s nice to use some flex and then
1:17
extend and that helps so that you don’t
1:20
wear out your body we’re flexing and
1:23
extending through our turns and
1:25
depending on the type of turn that we’re
1:28
doing is when we flex so a more basic
1:31
skidded turn is we’re up at the
1:34
beginning of our turn and then we’re
1:35
flexing down with the end and then the
1:39
more dynamic turn is when we’re really
1:41
flexed at the at the beginning and we
1:44
extend through our turn and then come
1:47
back down to being flexed so there’s a
1:50
difference there’s up at the beginning
1:53
more extended and then flex at the end
1:56
that’s more basic and then if I’m flexed
1:59
at the beginning and extend through the
2:01
end that’s more dynamic so when I’m
2:04
flexing down that’s a conscious
2:07
movement I’m trying to get the board to
2:09
either slow down or to make a turn or to
2:12
absorb and then as I extend I’m actually
2:16
creating less tension on my body and
2:19
relaxing my body using more of my
2:20
skeleton and
2:22
not so much my muscles so I’ve flex and
2:25
I use more of my muscles to make a
2:26
movement to slow down to just turn to
2:29
absorb and then I extend that relaxes
2:33
the muscles in my body and gives my body
2:35
a break.

as they say no friends on a powder day and if you haven’t heard that before
0:17
now you know it snows 2-3 feet you’re gonna wanna get up there and every
0:23
minute counts because the runs get tracked out so you wait an extra 10- 20 minutes for
0:31
somebody you’re going to miss that run and those are epic lines that you
0:36
really want to get to so riding alone is something that happens all the
0:42
time and a great thing about snowboarding is that you can go do this
0:45
by yourself anytime but if you’re riding alone stay in bounds stay in the resort
0:50
trails and make sure that you have some type of communication especially like a
0:55
cell phone or maybe a walkie-talkie of some sort some way that you can
1:00
communicate to somebody in case an emergency happens and you need to get
1:04
help if you’re out on the trail and something happens where you can’t
1:09
snowboard down you’re going to need to get some help to get you down. In some
1:13
cases every second counts. You know I had a buddy that ruptured his spleen and he
1:19
had to get him down to the clinic to the hospital they had a lifeline him out.
1:23
but maybe you are lone wolf you like it you like going out there and just
1:26
spending time on your own you know that serenity of of being out on the trails on
1:33
top of a mountain and just ripping it up. Now again it’s a good idea to tell
1:38
somebody where you’re going don’t go in the backcountry by yourself this sport’s
1:43
great because you can be a lone wolf out there you can be by yourself and have a
1:47
great time but just take into consideration that if you are out there
1:50
by yourself to be safe
